Metal and mining stocks decline; How?
Key indices traded with weakness in mid-afternoon trade led by a slide in index pivotals Reliance Industries, ONGC, and HDFC. At 14:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 452.17 points or 1.29% at 34,716.99. The Nifty 50 index was down 164.05 points or 1.55% at 10,435.20. Metal and mining stocks declined. Negative global stocks weighed on the sentiment.
The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. On the BSE, 843 shares rose and 1707 shares fell. A total of 138 shares were unchanged.
Shares of index heavyweight Reliance Industries dropped 4.1% to Rs 1,074.65.
Among other index heavyweights ONGC (down 14.7%), HDFC and (down 2.45%) and ITC (down 2.31%) declined.
Metal and mining stocks declined. Vedanta (down 2%), JSW Steel (down 1.46%), Tata Steel (down 1.72%), Steel Authority of India (Sail) (down 1.95%), National Aluminium Company (down 3.26%), Hindustan Zinc (down 1.61%), Jindal Steel & Power (down 4.66%), Hindalco Industries (down 3.09%), NMDC (down 4.52%) and Hindustan Copper (down 3.74%) edged lower.
